Down And Out (Blackhawks)

These are the times that try men's souls.

Well, no, that's a bit melodramatic.

But the truth is, the Hawks are starting to look as though fatigue and injury are catching up with them. After playing their third game in four nights against solid Western Conference teams, the Hawks have 1 point to show for it. And last night, especially, they looked a bit tired and in need of rest.

The good news, if there is any, is it appears the Hawks have found a reliable backup goalie in Antti Raanta. Raanta was beaten for two goals in regulation last night, both on redirects, but was otherwise rock solid.

And despite the recent swoon, the Hawks have the most points in the West, although St. Louis and San Jose have games in hand.

Bad news? The Hawks have never been a terribly physical team, and with out Andrew Shaw and Bryan Bickell in the lineup, their physicality is almost non-existent. Some might scoff and say that's not their game. Well the Hawks' game, until further notice, is hockey. A contact sport.

But for now, let's chalk up the Hawks' recent troubles to a busier schedule than most clubs and a long West Coast road trip in the first part of the season.

Next up is a Florida Panthers club coming in to the UC tomorrow night—which should be at least a temporary cure for what ails the Hawks.

I'll be back with a preview tomorrow.
