What do you say after losing to a team that hadn't won in 11 games? Out-shot, out-hit, out-played and, more importantly, out-scored.
Ben Scrivens played well in nets but wasn't tested nearly enough. Alex Stalock did everything he could but was dealt some hard luck. Justin Braun falls on his own goaltender and Brenden Dillon has a puck going wide bounce off him and into the net. The Sharks got the fate they deserved for how they played in this game and that’s a sad statement when it’s the Oilers.
Sure, the Oilers weren't going to lose every single game but you never want to be the team that they break a monstrous losing streak to. This puts even more pressure on the Sharks for their next game, against the Oilers once again.
Sharks fans were not happy with the loss, not unexpectedly.

From the start Sheppard was in trouble against the significantly bigger Aulie, but he went for a tilt anyway so good job on him.
The Sharks better figure out how to play hockey again after disastrous games against Calgary and Edmonton. They play two of the next four against the Oilers, with Minnesota and Nashville in between, before a six-game stretch that features the Ducks twice, Blues twice, Kings and Canucks.
That’s not exactly a schedule built to help a team climb the standings.
After winning four straight the Sharks had seemingly turned their season around but a loss to the last place Oilers puts a huge question mark on that theory. Have the Sharks really turned their season around or did they just go on a small run, like the Buffalo Sabres did?
This isn't a ‘back in panic mode’ situation. This is a legitimate question of whether or not the Sharks were safely out of it. They had a great opportunity to move into 7th in the West and blew it.
If San Jose continues to struggle, without getting results in the standings, January 3rd (after the six-game stretch of death) could be Todd McLellan’s last time behind the bench for the Sharks.
Being as there’s not much else to say, it’s time for a poll!
Which team are the Sharks? Is it the team that started 4-1 and just finished a 4-1 stretch of games? Or are they team that went 6-9-4 in between those two stretches of games? Have your say.
San Jose now gets a day off to prepare to face the Oilers again and decide which team they want to be.
