Lou Lamoriello has locked up another restricted free agent defenseman, but it's not the one Devils fans are hoping for.
The latest player to put pen to paper on a contract extension with the Devils is Brandon Burlon, who has signed a two-year, two-way contract extension.
Burlon, 24, spent his last three seasons playing in Albany with the A-Devs. He figures to spend most - if not all - of this upcoming year in Albany, but should he move up to the NHL he will carry a cap hit of $562K, per CapGeek.
Burlon is coming off a respectable campaign where he posted 11 points and was good defensively while playing relatively significant minutes with Albany.
I don't think he's progressed as much as the Devils had hoped he would by this point, and with Damon Severson, Steve Santini and Reece Scarlett, among others, developing rapidly, he's quickly sliding down the depth chart.
I'd be surprised if Burlon sees any time in the NHL this year. At this point, I think he's a good AHL player who provides depth within the organization, and not much more.
With Burlon re-signed, Eric Gelinas, Scott Timmins and David Wohlberg remain the notable unsigned RFAs.
