Coyotes Win, Apparently (Capitals)

So, I had a weird night.

After I got off work at 5, I walked out to find myself in the middle of a blizzard. Now, as my regular reader knows, I live in Canada, so while the appearance of any snow at all might constitute a blizzard in Arizona, in Ontario, if you call it a blizzard its pretty damn serious.

The visibility was zero and I was forced to cancel my weekly poker game. But, the guys I play with don't consider a little thing like being unable to see where you're driving as a worthwhile safety concern and we ended up playing anyways.

I wish we didn't though because I lost. But, not only did I lose but one of the guys, Greg, got stuck in the snow when his creepy, white, windowless pervert-van failed to find traction on the un-plowed road and we had to push him all the way around the block.

Upon returning home I was soaked and cold and $20 poorer, but overall pretty excited to watch the Coyotes/Capitals game. What happened next was a horror known colloquially a First World Problem: My DVR failed to record the game.

In my time covering the stately and majestic Coyote, this has only ever happened one other time. Shame too, because the highlights and several tweet-droppers indicated that it was a good game.

Instead of the hockey game, I settled for ordering the new movie 22 Jump Street. I should not have spent seven dollars on that steaming pile of crap though. What a garbage movie. I rate it zero stars and would say its about the movie equivalent of the Capitals trading Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat. As if the old DVR crapping out and the disappointingly awful sequel weren't bad enough, I woke up this morning and decided to go pick up the new Ariel Pink record which came out Tuesday. A good trip to the record store always sets things right when extremely minor inconveniences are getting me down. Only problem was, I guess I keep forgetting it is 2014 or whatever, but I drove to two different record stores and neither one had the album I wanted.

How two major chain retailers can fail to stock a pretty major release is beyond me. The crazy thing is, it's the kind of people who listen to artists like Ariel pink who are going to be more apt to buy the actual real copy of the album than anyone else, so I can't believe they didn't have it.

Anyways, sorry for venting, I'll get back to the game.

What I hear is that the Coyotes lost in OT but that they should be proud of their effort. Well, I couldn't even say that about my poker game, so good on them.

It is important to note that OEL, who was scoring on only 3% of his shots, scored a goal. He'll probably score quite a few in the next little while as that unlucky stats corrects itself.

On the negative side, Michael Stone was hit in the face with the puck, but he did return and is fine. Not fine though, is the ever fragile Martin Hanzal. Don't know why he missed the game, but it's annoyingly being called a lower body injury. I swear this guy could get hurt taking his kid to Disney on Ice, let alone trying to play in the NHL.

The Coyotes ought to try out a promotion where every time Hanzal gets injured, they buy premium health insurance for one lucky fan. When he retires maybe they can name a wing of a hospital after him.

Also worth mentioning is that Lucas Lessio played his first NHL game. I wish I saw it, then I could tell you how he did. I can tell you that he did not register a shot or a point in just under ten minutes. How those ten minutes went exactly, alas, I cannot say.

The Coyotes move on to Dallas for a game tomorrow where they will once again find themselves facing a Stars team due for a win. Unfortunately, last time that happened the Stars got their win. Hopefully this time will be different as the Coyotes will be seeking revenge for the game they lost in the final minute (on the PP) last week.
