Please excuse the lack of commentary on Free Agency day, It is Canada Day (the Canadian 4th of July, basically) there is BBQs and family stuff to do and I was only able to sneak away now, and only for a few seconds.
I will follow up with some analysis as soon as I can, but for now the Coyotes have signed Devon Dubnyk to back up Mike Smith. As far as instant analysis goes, I think this is probably a good pick up. Dubnyk struggled in front of a bad Oilers team and ended up getting moved, however I do remember quite a few Oilers fans thought he could be their goalie of the future at one time.
He has experience as a starter and should Smith go down with an injury should provide a decent enough backup option.
As previously reported, the Coyotes had no plans to sign any of their UFAs and they were not expected to be very active today - which they weren't.
Besides Dubnyk, they also got former Penguin Joe Vitale. He should replace Halpern and provide a good fourth line centre and second penalty killing option behind Vermette.
As of now, there is no word on where Radim Vrbata will be playing next season, except to say that he most likely will not be back in Phoenix......Glendale or Arizona.
More to follow.
