The Coyotes lost to the Avalanche last night in one of the worst games ever.
Not to be to hyperbolic about it or anything, but it was brutal. The game had seven goals, and I think the majority of them went in after hitting a glove or a stick. I even felt bad for Colorado goalie Reto Berra who let in 3 goals on 8 shots that you couldn't really blame him on.
The first two deflected of a stick and a glove, then on the Reider goal, the puck looked to maybe deflect off a stick but was, either way, more of a wavering floater than a rocket. Nice display of speed though for Reider on that goal - I like him more every game.
I also like that Hanzal was back after missing four games, but then again, he probably got hurt again last night, who knows with this guy?
With the game seemingly in the bag after roughly ten minutes, you'd be forgiven for thinking the Coyotes just sat back and got complacent, but that wasn't really what happened. The thing is, the Coyotes were up 3-0 but they didn't dominate the play or anything, really. They just happened to score 3 goals due almost entirely to luck and good fortune.
Once the second period started, however, the good luck reverted to the Avalanche, who then took their turn scoring lucky goals. Nothing wrong with the first one, but the second one was a deflection and the last two went off sticks.
So, while blowing a three goal lead really sucks, it wasn't your typical situation where that happens. It was just once of those games where most of the goals were weird which just makes it frustrating and all the more so in light of only getting 1 point instead of two.
Was it the worst game of all time? Not really, just kind of feels like that this morning.
The Coyotes will play the Flames at home on Saturday when they look to avoid going six games without a regulation win.
