Is it May? Is there absolutely nothing to say that's interesting about a team that's not in the post-season?
Here's a note on Erik Karlsson being one of eight finalists for EA Sports' NHL '15, courtesy The Globe and Mail:
Montreal’s P.K. Subban, Ottawa’s Erik Karlsson and Toronto’s Phil Kessel are among the eight players up for the cover for EA Sports’ new hockey video game. The other cover athlete candidates for “NHL 15… are Boston’s Patrice Bergeron, San Jose’s Logan Couture, Los Angeles’ Drew Doughty, Colorado’s Matt Duchene and St. Louis’ T.J. Oshie.
The winner will be decided via a fan vote starting today on covervote.nhl.com/#/ballot. Fans can also use specific Twitter hashtags on Thursdays to advance their player’s cause.
The player vote is in a head-to-head format.
Quarter-final pairings pit Subban against Kessel, Bergeron against Karlsson, Couture against Doughty, and Duchene against Oshie. Voting for this round runs through May 18.
Weirdly, I think every one of those players would be a good fit on the cover. This is important, because we are, what, less than a year removed from a replacement level player getting the cover of NHL '14?
Three of the five best defensemen in the league, one of the best centers in the world, two of the most electric goal-scorers in the world, a fella from Warroad who is now a household name in the United States (which, I submit, is no small feat), and Logan Couture, who is a damn fine player.
Also, if you were curious: NHL '15 will be available on next-gen consoles, including PS4 and Xbox One.
