The Leafs hierarchy have retained head coach Randy Carlyle and have extended the veteran coach for two years, but has dismissed his entire coaching staff.
Carlyle was entering the final year of a four-year contract signed when hired to replace Ron Wilson in March 2012.
Assistant coaches Greg Cronin and Scott Gordon, who were carryovers from Wilson's staff, and Dave Farrish, who was part of Carlyle's 2007 Stanley Cup winning staff in Anaheim, have been let go.
Carlyle led Toronto to their first playoff appearance in nine years in the lockout-shortened 2013 campaign, losing in the first round to Boston in seven games, but could not repeat that feat this season, as defensive and special teams woes resulted in a 38-36-8 record and a 12th place finish in the Eastern Conference.
The coming "culture change" spoken of by MLSE Chairman Tim Leiweke, new Team President Brendan Shanahan and GM Dave Nonis after the regular season is not going to be brought about by the replacement of the coaching staff, which should be an indicator that significant roster changes will be made to the club this summer.
