Former Philadelphia Flyers heavy Dan Carcillo landed a damaging blow on Steve Mason when he scored the first goal of the game in the second period of Game 7. Carcillo was a healthy scratch in Games 5 and 6. Alain Vigneault summoned his gritty vet from the press box for Game 7 and opted to scratch youngster JT Miller. Wise move by AV.
Carcillo got the party started, then mments later, Benoit Pouliot scored the eventual game winner on Mason, who could not have played better for the Flyers.
Mason made save after pressure-packed save to give his team a chance to win. The Flyers emptied their scoring clip in Game 6 on Tuesday night and could only shoot blanks at Henrik Lundqvist , who was money when called upon to make the big save.
The Rangers will face the Pittsburgh Penguins in round two.
