The Washington Capitals might be in need of a tweak in their lineup to try and generate a spark in offense.
It's no secret that the Edmonton Oilers are shopping a few of their players, and changes are definitely coming to the organization. David Perron is one of the players potentially being shopped and probably the only player the Caps could possibly be scouting.
Perron, 26, carries a cap hit just a hair above $3.8M for the next two years, so his contract isn't at all obscene, which makes him even more alluring for teams looking to get deeper on the wing.
If the Caps are interested, it would strengthen a left side that needs a little more consistency.
However, it may cost the Caps someone like Jason Chimera who has been a bull for the Caps. He's an Edmonton native and can fly, especially on Oiler ice. His cap hit is only $2M, so the Caps may have to offer up a defenseman, which the Oilers are more interested in.
Mike Green's name is sure to be mentioned as he is a UFA at the end of the season, and also a native to Calgary. I still can't see the Caps parting with him until the deadline and only if they absolutely need to. His recent injury is still in question as well.
I could see the Caps possibly parting with Dmity Orlov in a package to obtain Perron, if that is indeed who they are after. Orlov should return from injury in December. Orlov is also an RFA at the end of the season.
The Caps also have a lot of young defensemen in their system who would have a shot at breaking out in Edmonton.
Other than Perron, the only player I can see the Caps kicking the tires on is Nail Yakupov. This is highly unlikely, as he plays on the right wing, but Yakupov is a big fan of Ovechkin, and there is no doubt he would love to be traded here.
It's fun to play with scenarios, but there aren't many rumors out there for the Caps. They do need a tweak though, and Perron could be a nice start.
What do you guys think about
