The butt goal has gone viral and has to be one of the craziest ways to end a game that I've ever seen.

You can clearly see the puck in the net, thanks to Smith's white jersey. The whistle should have blown since no one knew where the puck was. One of the officials on the ice should have blown the play dead before Smith ever backed into his own net.
It happened so fast, though. The puck was in the air, and everyone expected it to drop to the ice. A few seconds later, it was already in the back of the net. While it was a good goal, a whistle should have stopped the play.
It was a break that the Sabres have needed this season.
The Sabres have won three out of the last four and have suddenly been playing their best hockey of the season. Last night's win against Phoenix was another comeback victory.
The Sabres are still 30th in the league, but now only four points behind Edmonton. The Oilers have also played two more games. Those who are looking for that top pick probably aren't happy with this short turnaround.
Were' not even halfway through the season and so much can happen the rest of the way. As of right now, Sabres hockey is exciting again. The way they have been playing makes me want to watch the game, unlike earlier in the year.
