So Brian Gibbons is available.
Gibbons was previously on IR so it appears now whatever ailment he was suffering from has passed. You aren’t allowed to place players on waivers if they are on injured reserved.
It is no secret that I wanted the Penguins to retain the services of Brian Gibbons this past offseason. I believe his speed is a true asset and his puck skills are more than adequate. I would have placed him predominately in a fourth line role with the ability to move up the lineup during any given game that there are injury problems.
One of Brian Gibbons best assets is his ability to use his speed on the penalty kill. The biggest problem on the Penguins currently? Their penalty kill.
Should the Penguins claim him?
Well, it isn’t as easy as that. They need the cap space to do so. They could send Zach Sill down to WB/S but he only makes 550k, not enough to cover Gibbons 750k. You could send Adams down, but that only works if somebody claims him (ha!).
I wish they had the room to claim him, I think he makes the Penguins depth better. I just don’t see a situation where they can do so. Oh well.

The Penguins next opponent is Dallas on Thursday. Here is an injury update from today.
Val Nichushkin is getting his groin/hip pointer checked out in Texas, so he is out.
