The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed another one of their top prospects.
About a week after inking goaltending prospect Oscar Dansk to a three-year entry-level contract, the Jackets did the same with another young Swede, signing Alexander Wennberg to a three-year ELC.
Wennberg, 19, was selected 14th overall in last year's draft, and is coming off an excellent season overseas while playing for Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League. While playing for Frolunda Wennberg found twine 16 times and was a finalist for Rookie of the Year.
Jarmo Kekalainen talked him up pretty good, and believes he can compete for a spot on their team in the fall.
Via Aaron Portzline: “In talking to Alexander after the season, he made it very clear that he wanted to sign (a contract), work hard this summer and then come to training camp to try to make our team. He’s is an outstanding young player and we are excited to watch him develop in the coming years.…
Wennberg seems to be coming along nicely, and the Jackets need to improve their offense, so it's not a huge stretch to think he has a shot at making the team out of camp.
