Blue Jackets Sign Sonny Milano (Blue Jackets)

The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced the signing of 2014 1st round pick Sonny Milano to a standard three-year entry-level deal.

Release from the team: “Sonny Milano is a skilled, dynamic player and we’re very happy to add him to the exciting group of prospects within our organization,… said Kekalainen. “We are looking forward to watching his development and helping him grow both on and off the ice in the years to come.…

This signing may be a surprise to some in that a couple weeks ago Milano openly said he hadn't had any contract talks with the Blue Jackets, but the writing was on the wall that he'd sign in short order after forgoing a year or two at Boston College to join the OHL's Plymouth Whalers.

The 6'0" 190lb highly skilled forward is getting set to suit up for the Blue Jackets at the Traverse City prospect tournament, and his OHL season with Plymouth opens up in two weeks, so there was likely some urgency to get a deal done before his season started.

Now Milano, a 16th overall pick in June, can focus solely on improving as a player, and preparing for pro hockey, whether that comes next year or the season after.
