The holdout is finally over.
Just a few days away from their season opener against the Sabres, the Blue Jackets have announced they've agreed to a three-year contract with Ryan Johansen.
Johansen's contract is worth a total of $12 million and carries an annual average of $4 million. The breakdown is as follows (via Aaron Portzline): Y1: $3M Y2: $3M Y3: $6M.
When his contract expires Johansen's will still be a restricted free agent, however, he will have arbitration rights and the qualifying offer has to be above $6 million, I believe.
Johansen has been training regularly in Vancouver, B.C. so he should be in good shape and ready to center the top line on Thursday night.
Given Johansen's importance to the team along with the injuries to Nathan Horton and Boone Jenner, it was pivotal to get a deal done before the season began.
