Youth is NOT served in Sharks latest cuts

SHARKS REASSIGN SIX PLAYERS

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has reassigned six players to the San Jose Barracuda (@SJBarracuda, AHL):

Ryan Carpenter - F

Nikolay Goldobin - F

Barclay Goodrow - F

Dan Kelly - D

Kevin Labanc - F

Mirco Mueller - D

The Sharks training camp now stands at 23 players. An updated roster can be found HERE.

The announcement comes one day before the start of regular season. The Sharks open the '16-17 season in Los Angeles on Wednesday night at the SAP Center.

All six players will all start the season with the San Jose Barracuda, proving that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I have mentioned this once or twice in past, but head coach Pete Deboer has never been a big fan of the whole youth movement thing. At least Michael Haley is still on the roster. Point proven.

It's a bit disappointing. I'm not questioning Wilson or Deboer, but I am curious what the thought process is here. They keep a guy like Haley and Timo Meier, who has seen very little action, but cut an energy guy like Labanc? Why not see what you have in one or two of these young forwards - at least to start the season? The worse thing that could happen (besides injury) is they gain some valuable NHL experience.

No sense crying over an old roster because the season starts tomorrow and that trumps all.
