UPDATE:
Are the Jets and Coyotes talking about the 3rd overall pick?
This tweet came out:
Coyotes GM Don Maloney said one team offered him a pair of mid-first round picks and a player Wednesday evening for the No. 3 pick.
— Craig Morgan (@cmorganfoxaz) June 25, 2015And one as to wonder if that team is the Jets who hold the 17th and 25th picks in the first round. They also may have a player or two to offer by the likes of a Alexander Burmistrov who would fit in with the ideas expressed in this tweet:
Maloney: "The only way we're going to trade down is to get young player who can be part of that Domi, Duclair, Perlini group going forward."
— Craig Morgan (@cmorganfoxaz) June 25, 2015Burmistrov is 23 and would be in that range. It could be other options too like the rights to Frolik and perhaps Dustin Byfuglien as the Coyotes do have 18 million to make up to hit the salary cap floor of 52.2 million for this next season.
If Buff is involved, and there's no evidence suggesting his name is being tossed as part of deal, what would the Jets draft with the third overall pick? A forward or defensemen? Noah Hanafin is ranked 3rd by CSS but Strome or Marner could be sought adding to the stable of young centres the Jets already have. But look a bit down and you see the name Ivan Provorov from the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Jets would have an advantage in scouting him with Brandon being 2 hours from Winnipeg. In 2012 the had Trouba ranked at 4th best player available and it might not being surprising that they would want Povorov if they saw him in the same light as Trouba.
Things are getting interesting...especially if you consider this offer Ryan Blight thought of...
So Arizona is considering moving the 3rd pick.
Just for fun...
Buff, rights to Frolik, 17 & 25 for rights to Boedker (RFA) & 3rd overall?
— Ryan Blight (@arby_18) June 6, 2015Remember, Chevy did say at the deadline that he would revisit ideas from the trade deadline and this could be the lead up to something bigger and bolder.
More as it comes- now the Jets Schedule thoughts...
It may be premature to think about certain dates for the Winnipeg Jets next season when it's hard to imagine what the team may be like with some of the expected roster turnover. However. here are the dates that matter and why.
Jets at Bruins October 8th- this will be the first chance to see what the Bruins look like in a meaningful game after the salary cap blood-letting that will happen this summer.
Flames at Jets October 16th- A rematch from the final game of the season and the home opener and hopefully a little prairie rivalry. Yes Calgary you are prairie!!
Blues at Jets October 18th- Does Pavelec get the start, should he?
Blackhawks at Jets October 29th- Does Hutch get the start, should he?
Leafs at Jets Dec 2- LEAFS SUCK!! you know the chant is coming
Sabres at Jets Jan 10- Track Suit night? Kane Bobblehead night? Oh you know the the will be raining down on 'the Natural' Even the Jets website know this is a big game for some reason?
Canadiens at Jets Mar 5- HABS SUCK!! You know the chant is coming, see Leafs.
Jets at Sabres Mar 26- again why is this so important to the Jets organization?
Wild at Jets Apr 3- last home game, do you think anyone from Minny makes the trip?
It's fun to plan a vacation or start thinking about your season ticket draft with friends and all but t the end of the day this is another season that presents opportunity and adversity- now the planning for that future begins. Silly season is upon us!
