The news shot across social media just a few minutes ago and when Elliotte Friedman tweets it you know it's pretty legit or close to being.

The question is why so short? Well the Jets and Trouba's camp since contract negotiations have been discussed have said they wanted a long term deal but this is nothing short of a bridge deal and it seems to have come about from the meeting between the two sides this past weekend in Detroit.
This is a deal designed to be used to trade Trouba. Make no mistake Jets fans that the 2012 first round pick is staying here for longer. If a deal is not hammered out for a trade Trouba will elect to go to arbitration and then request a one year deal and can be a UFA after that.
At this point it's in the Jets' best interest to trade him when they can before every team knows he's going to be a UFA. There's time but not a lot.
Trouba can now play for his next deal, which should be a big one and that can only help the Jets too. Certainly we'll have more details later today but it appears in the game of showdown Mr. Holdout, Kurt Overhart blinked first, that's unless this deal turns out to be a lot like what happened with Kyle Turris, another Overhardt client.
