Trouba for Landeskog a Smoke Screen? (Winnipeg)

The rumours have been quiet whispers in and around Winnipeg for a bit and now are becoming full blown topics of conversation on Twitter, the internet and social media- Trouba for Landeskog. In fact it seems an unlikely pairing for a trade given the Jets depth and future on the LW but there is so much smoke here it's hard to ignore.

Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff did say he was not trying to trade Trouba in his press conference before the draft, but he also said he wouldn't not trade him when asked by Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun. It's the between the lines message that astute observers noticed and that same message or lack of a direct denial that has kept the rumour flames going.

Landeskog is a stud LW from the 2011 draft taken second overall and the thought of having him on one side of Schiefele and Wheeler on the other should make any Jets fan drool, but not too much. The Jets have depth on the LW and that's what makes this rumour somewhat puzzling.

In no particular order it looks like this:

Laine Connor Perreault Mathias Lowry (if need be) Petan (if need be) Burmistrov (if need be)

and more if you consider Dano is a left shot and newly signed Quentin Howden too. There's too many centres and too many left wings. While some will be on the farm and ready to jump up to play others will get playing time. Brandon Tanev is also a LW too and he was qualified too.

This rumour seems to be a bit of a smoke screen as it makes little sense for the Jets to take on Landeskog with what they have on the left side. Now if a left side top pairing defence man were there that might be a different scenario to ponder but that player does not exist on Colorado.

Some have suggested this deal could be bigger than a one for one player swap and that were the case would it be trading RFAs and more to really change things up?

Anything is possible but in my estimation this deal seems to be a rumour that gets people looking in the wrong place, including other teams.
