A few weeks back I shared some work from Domenic Luszczyszyn. He developed a stat called "game score" that he used to rank the best games played by individuals from 2007-present. Here is that work:

He has since come up with his own projections based on game score. Here are the following projections for the top 20 centers, wingers, and defensemen.

Pittsburgh has four players on the list which include Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Patrick Hornqvist. Only San Jose, St. Louis, and Los Angeles have more players on these projections.
He also released the top three players from each team. To nobody's surprise Pittsburgh's three are Crosby, Malkin, and Letang.

Work like this is fun to look at and see how each team shakes out. You can tell certain teams are in a rebuilding mode, others are incredibly mediocre, and then there are some real powerhouses.
If video games are your thing EA Sports has released some of the top 10 rankings for each position.
