Mark Scheifele and the Winnipeg Jets agreed I and 8 year deal with $49 million. That works out to 6.125 AAV.
For the Jet that's a premium for the UFA years and the last time they did this was with a former left winger right before the NHLPA was locked out in the fall of 2012. It's a risk and perhaps higher than some would do but Scheifele had his break out season in one of the Jets worst seasons since moving from Atlanta. By team success it was the worst.
However Scheifele has warned that extra money by being what every GM could want, a humble caring dedicated person who also happens to play hockey. That goes a long way with an organization like TNSE.
Is this a good deal? It takes him until he is 31 years old and that's not a bad thing especially if Scheifele continues to grow and if the that happens it's a bargain.
This is a great tweet and illustration from Robert Cleave
Don't look now but Chevy does not seem to be taking the summer the off just yet.
Be excited Jetz fans this is a good deal.
