Sather Getting Ready To Step Down? What Will Happen w/ ex-Oiler Assistants? (rumors)

New York Rangers President and GM Glen Sather denied the Boston Bruins permission to speak to assistant Jeff Gorton while his club was still alive in the playoffs and they moved forward by hiring Don Sweeney.

According to Larry Brooks of New York Post, Sather is not willing to give another NHL team permission even after the Rangers elimination and has denied the Toronto Maple Leafs from speaking to Gorton about their vacant GM position.

Sather is undecided about whether he wants to return for another year as GM, which gives rise to the possibility that the 71-year-old will relinquish the management duties to Gorton and remain as Team President.

Additionally, with the announcement in Edmonton -- not surprising, since there's a new head coach at the helm -- that veteran assistants Keith Acton and Craig Ramsay have been fired, it will be interesting to see where those two land. The mild-mannered Ramsay is still one of the best "teaching coaches" in the business, while the fiery Acton is also very experienced. I would not be at all surprised if one or both land jobs fairly quickly with other teams; possibly one of Philadelphia (where both coached before) or New Jersey.
