Post Battle #67 vs Detroit Red Wings (Blue Jackets)

Final Score: Red Wings 3 – Blue Jackets 5

Game Summary

This was a back and forth affair. The Jackets came out guns a blazing in the in the first period. Detroit answered with a solid second, though the Jackets held the lead. The Jackets pulled ahead 4-1 in the third before sitting back and letting the Wings back in the game. The comeback fell just short and the Jackets held on for a 5-3 victory.

David Savard kicked things off scoring on a five on three. He ripped home a shot from the point, beating Jimmy Howard high. That is his third goal in his last three games. He has been playing very well of late. He doesn’t appear to be missing Jack Johnson at all.

David Clarkson scored the Jackets second goal, his first goal since December 17th. It was scored in the most David Clarkson way. He got to the front of the net and with the goalie out of position, was able to slide a rebound home. That goal was the 200th point of his NHL career.

That Brandon Dubinsky-Cam Atkinson-Boone Jenner line was at it again. Boone scored the Jackets third goal. Dubinsky made a great pass to Boone who was alone on the doorstep. It seems like a lot of the goals scored by this line have come like this. They are able to get a player alone in the crease and the other two just seem to find him. It’s not like it’s just one guy either. We have seen all three players score goals like that this season.

This was a significant goal for two thirds of the line. For Boone that ties him with Brandon Saad for the team goals lead. For Cam, the assist gives him 20 on the season, as well as 41 points, both career highs. Cam had himself a game. He added two goals to go with that assist including the game winner.

The Jackets special teams were fantastic tonight they had the two power play goals as I mentioned. They also killed off four penalties of five penalties. The one goal they did allow came on a 6 on 4. In the four 5 on 4 kills, the Jackets allowed just a single shot.
