Post Battle #31 vs New York Islanders (Blue Jackets)

Final Score: Islanders 3 – Blue Jackets 2

Game Summary

The Blue Jackets played a very good game but ultimately fell 3-2 to the Islanders. The Jackets outshot the Isles 30-19 and out chanced them 28-20. The loss sucks but at least the game was entertaining. This was the fourth straight home game that the Jackets have gone to OT.

The Blue Jackets got a great game from Boone Jenner. Jenner’s strong season continued with an assist and four shots. He was thought to have scored the game winner with under a minute in the third, but the goal was disallowed because it was ruled he kicked the puck into the net.

No question about it the right call was made.

William Karlsson had an underrated strong game. He only played 10:50 in the contest but managed to fire three shots on net and had three scoring chances. He was also strong from a possession standpoint, a 68.75% Corsi at even strength.

What hurt the Jackets was they simply had no answer for Kyle Okposo. Okposo was involved in all three goals, scoring twice and assisting on the other. The first goal he scored was a gift. Gregory Campbell tried to make a breakout pass and it went right to Okposo who walked in alone and buried it.

Ryan Johansen and Jack Johnson both hit milestones. Joey played in his 300th NHL game, all with the Jackets. Johnson played in his 600th game, 257 of which he's donned the Union Blue. Johansen continues to climb up the record books. He's nine games away from reaching the top 10 in franchise history, nine goals and one assist away from the top five in each category, and sits fourth all-time in points.
