Coaches spend a great deal of time and energy getting their team to "peak" at the right time of year. We all know how 7th and 8th seeds have gone on to great things due to the matchups they have faced and because they are healthy and playing their best hockey at the right time of the year. Other teams have shown an ability to turn a switch when the playoffs start.
