There was certainly a frenzy of action yesterday when the clock struck noon. Many names of significance were signed. Not surprisingly the Penguins weren't in on any of it. The Penguins had a very low key day where they focused on signing depth for their AHL team. Here is a look at all of their moves on July 1 courtesy of General Fanager:
Like I said nothing major on the player front, but the team did announce a significant signing in the front office. Jim Rutherford agreed to a three year extension. Is this the end of Jason Botterill in Pittsburgh? It could be if he interviews well with Las Vegas.
Pittsburgh did lose a couple of players yesterday. Ben Lovejoy signed a three year deal worth 2.66M each season with the New Jersey Devils. Truth be told I thought he was going to crack the 3M barrier with his new deal.
Jeff Zatkoff has rejoined the Los Angeles Kings organization. Can't blame him for moving on. He certainly isn't going to play with how things are currently constructed.
Both Matt Cullen and Justin Schultz remain unsigned by anybody at the moment.
Pens still want to sign Cullen. Still waiting to hear. They know Minny is interested. They aren't sure how many other teams are involved.

Pittsburgh will continue to leave the door open for either player as long as they stay within the team's budgetary plans
Here are some contracts of note signed by some of the other Metropolitan Division teams
Carolina: Lee Stempniak, Viktor Stalberg
New Jersey: Ben Lovejoy, Beau Bennett
Islanders: Andrew Ladd, Jason Chimera
Rangers: Michael Grabner
Philadelphia: Dale Weise
Washington: Brett Connolly
