Patrik Elias Ready To Embrace A Rebuild With The Devils (Devils)

Ray Shero is planning a rebuild for the Devils and some of their players may not embrace it.

Patrik Elias is not one of those players.

Elias has said multiple times he'd like to have an opportunity to win again before he retires but he's not ready to leave New Jersey just yet.

Via Larry Brooks: The Devils rebuild will include 39-year-old Patrik Elias, who, we’re told, has not been asked by GM Ray Shero to waive his no-move clause and who has no inclination whatsoever to leave the franchise with which he has built a Hall of Fame career beginning with his December 1995 debut.

That doesn't mean it won't happen down the road, though.

Elias is an unrestricted free agent after the 2015-16 season and, as mentioned, he'd like to have another crack or two at a Stanley Cup.

The Devils are certainly not expected to contend next season, which means it's quite possible he is moved at the deadline should he welcome a move - he has a no movement clause - and decide he wants to play for a contender.

The Devils need as many assets as they can get and if Elias indicates he may sign elsewhere in the off-season it makes sense to get something for him.

We now know Elias will be a Devil at the start of next season but I'm still not entirely sure that will be the case past the trade deadline.
