Panthers Now Know What To Expect, And Are Ready (Panthers)

The Florida Panthers are in a dogfight, and time will tell if this largely inexperienced group can keep playing like they did in Game 2. In fact, if you combine their offensive effort in Game 1 with their defensive performance in Game 2, this series is easily 2-0 in favor of the Cats. If not for a few bad breaks and bounces, the Panthers could have scored 6 or 7 goals in Game 1.

The Islanders brought the noise physically in Game 1, and it took time for Florida to match the intensity. By the time they did, it was too late. What Game 2 showed is if Roberto Luongo is the Panthers' best player, they will win this series. But it also showed that the resiliency this team was known for all year is still very much alive.

It is very rare this team puts together two or more bad games in a row. Obviously that would be catastrophic this time of year.

As the 1-1 series heads to Brooklyn, the Cats better be ready for the physical intensity to get even higher. Playing in the first ever playoff game in their new building is sure to pump up the Isles. They got the split they wanted, now have home ice, and look to keep it.

The Panthers have had a bitter sweet time in the Barclays Center this year. On December 15th they went into Brooklyn and pasted New York 5-1 which started a franchise record winning streak. But on March 14th they coughed up a two goal lead in the 3rd period, falling 3-2 in regulation.

The Panthers know they can win here, but the mistakes that caused the Game 1 loss cannot show their heads again in any way.

Islanders' goaltender Thomas Greiss was a workhorse in Game 1 facing 46 shots. It was Luongo's turn in Game 2 facing 42. Game 3 should be a much tighter affair now that both teams have figured out how to limit the opposition's chances.

Florida made some changes to the roster, sending Rocco Grimaldi back down to the AHL and recalling Logan Shaw. That makes sense, especially as the physical play continues. Shaw is 6'3", 202 lbs. as opposed to Grimaldi's 5'6", 180 lbs. However, Shaw is the scratch tonight.

Derek MacKenzie moves up to center the 3rd line, and Greg McKegg will center the 4th.

The Vincent Trocheck watch is on as it is rumored that he could return as early as Game 4. He did not skate today but was reported he will start skating tomorrow to test the leg. He would be a HUGE boost to the lineup, especially in a series that is now guaranteed to go at least 5 games. This matchup is likely to go 6 or 7.

There is no overstating how important this game is for both teams, and it should be a fun one to watch. Here's hoping both teams come out of it healthy, because another bruising affair is on tap.
