Ovechkin Donates Car to Charity (Washington Capitals)

On Friday night, Alex Ovechkin took a mundane and tired NHL All Star Fantasy, and injected a little humor into the night.

Ovechkin begged and pleaded to be picked last in the draft, even going so far as to make a sign reading, "I want to be last. I need car."

For those of you who don't follow the Caps or understand Ovechkin's humor, it was to see how crazy and a little pretentious he was acting.

However, a lot of fans in this region knew something had to be up with Ovechkin's plea.

After being picked third from last, Ovechkin just missed out on the car, with Patick Kane yelling over to him, "Ovie just go buy a car".

It was all fun and games though, and livened up a dull night (not to mention Ovie may or may not have had too much sauce).

Over the weekend, Honda contacted Ovechkin's agent and asked why the superstar wanted a Honda so badly. When they learned Ovechkin's intentions, they quickly acted and gave Ovie the car he wanted so badly.

Ovechkin then donated the car to the Washington Ice Dogs, a hockey program in the DC area for children with special needs. Ovechkin is involved with this program, especially with 10-year-old Ann Scaub. Schaub has down syndrome, but that didn't stop from asking Ovechkin out on a date, which the big Russian gladly accepted. The two had a dinner date back in October.

It's another "aww" moment for Ovechkin, who also gave away his stick, skates, gloves and few pucks to some Caps fans in Columbus after the skills competition.

He's a good guy, and has a big heart. He may be cooky at times and may come off as arrogant to people who don't get to see much of this side of Ovechkin.

Here in DC, we're used to it.

More to come...
