Well if this isn’t an interesting little nugget for a Saturday evening. Newsday’s Arthur Staple is reporting that Islanders’ winger Kyle Okposo may be traded. Staple citied two sources from outside the organization that state the Isles may deal Okposo who is entering the final year of his deal.
We all know it is easier to find an escaped convict in New York than it is to get information out of the Islanders organization. I have talked to my sources around the league and they have not heard any chatter specifically about Okposo. I have just been told that Snow may make some trades on draft day. Staple also went on to say that Michael Grabner is being actively shopped which we have been talking about for months. Staple doesn’t offer up trade rumors very often so if he went with this story I believe it.
Let’s keep the focus on Okposo. If he is going to get traded it could be for one of two reasons. Does he simply want too much money? Or does the team feel that Kyle will not be the same player after having eye surgery to replace a detached retina.
I honestly do not think Okposo will be moved unless Snow is blown away by a deal or he knows he can’t resign him. If anything it will certainly lead to some serious chatter this week as we move close to the NHL Draft on Friday. With the Isles no longer cap basement dwellers, Garth Snow is going to face many tough financial decisions, Kyle Okposo is going to be one of them.
