Well, now everyone knows what was really wrong with Duncan Keith.
Maybe anyway.
News broke this morning that Keith had successful surgery this morning to repair a torn meniscus—and he will be out of action for 4-6 weeks. There had been some speculation on various blog message boards that something must be “distracting… Keith, who hasn’t looked great the first six games of the season. And now it appears that distraction may, in fact, have been a knee injury.
So all that aside, where does it leave the Hawks?
There is no positive answer to this. Sure it means more TOI and perhaps faster development for the likes of Viktor Svedberg, Trevor van Riemsdyk and David Rundblad. Or it means too much will now be asked, too soon, of 1-2 of those players.
To my eye, because of his stick side and style of play, it should mean more TOI and more work in more situations for Trevor Daley. Again, because of stick side, I could also see Kyle Cumiskey being recalled from Rockford.
The Hawks have actually been fairly lucky the last few years as far as injuries to top players. They will have to work through this. And it is one more big challenge in an offseason and early regular season that’s been full of them thus far.
More as I hear it.
