Some notes on the World Hockey Championships, OHL playoffs and more:
1) I was really pleased to see that Miles Wood was among those added to USA's roster at the Worlds. They have a very young team, obviously, so if he plays well he could earn important minutes in different situations against some of the best players in the world.
Playing there also gives John Hynes a chance to get an extended look at Wood so he is more familiar with what he has heading into next season.
2) Personally I'm not a huge David Warsofsky fan and would like to see him let go but I have a feeling he'll be brought back.
Hynes has coached Warsofsky on and off for the better part of a decade so he knows what he has. The results, at least at the NHL level, haven't been great but Hynes seems to like what he brings to the table, anyway.
If Warsofsky shows relatively well at the Worlds I'm sure Hynes will be in Ray Shero's ear to give him an extension.
3) Mackenzie Blackwood's strong postseason continued on Thursday night as he posted a 29 save shutout on the road while backstopping Barrie in their sweep over North Bay.
Blackwood has now allowed two goals or less in five straight starts, has won five in a row and owns a .952 save percentage in that span.
He had a rough start early on and also missed a couple with a back injury but Blackwood is now 6-1 with a league-best .924SV% in this year's playoffs. He has been excellent.
