NHL Power Rankings: There's A New Team On Top (Capitals)

In this edition of the hotstove we share our rankings for the top-5 teams in hockey.

Todd Cordell

1. Washington Capitals (24-6-2)

Only Dallas, Ottawa and Boston have scored more goals and no team has allowed less.

The Capitals are getting excellent goaltending from Braden Holtby, their stars are playing like stars and they're getting contributions all throughout their lineup.

They are a scary good team right now.

2. Dallas Stars (24-7-2)

They continue to score at will and lead the league's toughest division as a result.

3. Los Angeles Kings (20-10-2)

A comprehensive list of teams who have allowed fewer goals: the Washington Capitals. No team is better in possession, either.

4. Chicago Blackhawks (20-11-4)

They've won seven of their last 10 and are now tied for 2nd in the Central Division. Only the Stars have a better goal differential in the Western Conference

5. Detroit Red Wings (17-9-4)

If my math is correct the Red Wings have picked up at least a point in 15 of their last 16 games. That's good, I think.

Honorable mention: Minnesota Wild
