NHL Power Rankings: The Dallas Stars Have Company On Top (NHL)

In this edition of the hotstove we share our power rankings for the top-5 teams in hockey.

Todd Cordell

1. Dallas Stars (22-6-2)

The Stars have three players averaging a point per game or more, four players with at least 10 goals, and 13 players with at least 10 points.

Anyone and everyone who suits up for them is scoring right now and they're one of the best possession teams in hockey.

2. Los Angeles Kings (19-9-2)

No team is better in possession, they rank 2nd in goals against, and they own a 19-6-2 record over their last 27 games.

3. Washington Capitals (21-6-2)

The Caps are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and are 2nd in wins with 21.

4. Detroit Red Wings (16-8-6)

The Red Wings have recorded at least a point in a league-leading 13 consecutive games. They're asking a lot of their young players and right now they're coming through.

5. Montreal Canadiens (20-8-3)

The following teams have won more games than Montreal this season: Dallas. Things haven't been going as smoothly for Montreal of late but they're coming off an impressive win over Ottawa and still lead the Eastern Conference in points.

Honorable mention: New York Islanders.

James Tanner

1. LA Kings: The best team in hockey, in my opinion

2. Dallas Stars: One of the most fun teams to watch in the league and 21 of their 22 wins came in regulation.

3. Washington Capitals: Holtby has been unreal.

4. New York Islanders: No one talks about them, but they are just a few points out of the East lead and Tavares is due to start playing better.

5. Edmonton Oilers: Who cares who the fifth best team is anyways? Lets just give props to six in a row. Add McDavid and Yakupov, trade #1 pick for a Dmen, and they might really be the fifth best team in hockey.
