The Ducks are in the midst of a four day break from game action. Its a good time to throw out a few items for your consumption.
Great Feedback
I want to give props to the readers. I posted a column on Sunday (http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Ed-Stein/OpEd-My-Turn---Time-to-Make-Changes/210/73052) in which I outlined some changes I thought the Ducks should make.
There are a few items that throw up red flags for me. First, the Ducks have won only three of 11 games against the top 15 teams in the NHL. Two OTL makes the total 8 of a possible 22 points. The record tells me that this team doesn't matchup against the top teams in the league. Many of you believe that all the Ducks need to do is make the playoffs. After last season's playoff run, making the playoffs only to lose early just won't cut it.
Next, the Ducks have scored the fewest goals in the NHL this year. I agree with quackup when he said defense wins championships. Somewhere along the line; however, this team needs to score some goals of their own. Although the team went 3-1 last week, the Ducks only scored eight goals against fringe playoff teams.
Number 36 is Number 1
Goalie John Gibson was named the number one star by the NHL for his outstanding performance last week. He posted two shutouts on his way to a 3-1 record with a 0.76 goals against average and a .964 save percentage.
Semin Anyone?
Alexander Semin was placed on unconditional waivers by the Canadiens today. There is no doubt he has lost his way since leaving Washington. At only 31 years old, a reunion with his former coach Bruce Boudreau might be beneficial to both sides. What would the Ducks have to lose by signing him to an incentive laden two way contract once he clears?
Great Gift Idea
I got an email from www.puckhcky.com. They have some cool items featuring Frederick Andersen and Hampus Lindholm. Its worth checking out. Use the promo code PUCKDUCK for 10% off your purchase.
