Brad Marchand has made a big splash at the World Cup of Hockey accomplishing something that many talented NHL forwards have had trouble doing: succeeding on a line with Sidney Crosby.
The Boston Bruins winger scored the game-tying and winning goals in Canada’s 5-3 victory over Russia on Saturday.
Marchand’s success may have given Boston GM Don Sweeney a push to get him locked up prior to the start of the regular season and on Monday, it was announced that the Bruins have signed the 28-year-old to an eight-year, $49 Million extension ($6.125 Million AAV).
The deal extends Marchand through 2025 (or 36 years old) and slots his salary between linemate Patrice Bergeron (who makes close to $7 million) and ahead of free agent David Backes on the Boston payroll.
