In a year where not a lot went the Blue Jackets' way, that could all change with a little luck tonight.
The 2015 NHL Draft Lottery is here and, while the draft doesn't take place for a couple months, by the end of the night we'll know where Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel are playing next season.
In the Jackets' case they're hoping the former can fall on their lap.
Columbus has a very good core in place and they don't necessarily need McDavid - they already have a lot of firepower - however, like every team in the NHL, they would certainly benefit greatly from getting him.
The Blue Jackets have just a 6% chance of winning the lottery, but to put in perspective how much of a, well, lottery this is, Buffalo and Arizona combined have a 33% chance of winning, meaning two out of three draws neither of those teams will win the lottery.
It's also worth noting that the Devils had ~3.5% chance when they won the lottery, and moved up a handful of slots to select Adam Larsson, so anything is possible.
Here are the full odds.
