Leafs vs Coyotes: Don't Cross the Streams (Phaneuf)

I live in Toronto. I am a Coyotes fan.

Or, more accurately, my team in the West is Arizona and my team in the East is Toronto. So tonight: two worlds will collide.........in a game of terrible teams with a combined record of 38-58.

If you need to feel better, about anything at all, keep in mind that my third favorite hockey team is the Oilers.

So, it's been a fun season so far.

How bad are the teams I cheer for? Two Sundays ago, I got out of bed and threw on the first Tshirt I could find, which turned out to be a Green Bay Packers shirt. I don't watch the NFL, I don't follow it and the only reason I happened to even have the shirt is that it once came in a case of beer. Unbeknownst to me, the Packers played that day, and, as I later learned, they blew their chance to go to the Super Bowl in almost comical and historic fashion.

Obviously, someone thought I was a Packers fan and so of course that had to happen.

Just like on Tuesday night when I lost my poker tournament when my AA not only failed to stand up to JJ, but the turn and river were both Jacks, giving my opponent four of a kind. The following hand I had a chance to quadruple up and looked down at AK. It did not stand up.

I may be lucky in real life, but when it comes to sports and games for the last few months, I am on one hell of a cold streak. (Cue Violin).

Anyways, enough whining, on to business: The Coyotes have a very good chance of preventing their eighth straight loss tonight because they will be playing in Toronto, a place that, as long as you don't call it home, offers you a very good chance of winning every time.

In a coincidence almost hilarious if you're anyone but me, both teams enter the night on matching seven game losing streaks.

If you're the Coyotes however, you at least can take comfort that Max Domi and OEL > Morgan Rielly and Kadri. And that since the Coyotes haven't gone on a nonsensical luck fueled ten game winning streak, they have a good chance of landing McDavid in the off-season, unlike Toronto who will classically finish 9th in the conference, no doubt.

All in all, tonight's game could be interesting if both teams attempt to lose. Otherwise, it probably will just be depressing.

Realistically, you have to think the Coyotes have the edge in this one because Bernier - according to Twitter, at least - will be playing back-to-back (as, obviously, are the Leafs) and the Leafs are without Dion Phaneuf who is their best defensemen by a mile.

The Coyotes will be without Boedker, who is out six weeks after having his spleen removed, and Vitale who is hopeful, but doubtful.

At the very least, hopefully we can see a ton of goals tonight.

Thanks for reading.
