Leafs Get Busy Early. Sign RFAs and Close to Deal 3 Years with Zaitsev (NHL news)

Breaking...The Leafs have extended Kadri and Rielly....See Mike Augello's post for further info... Wikapedia defines Zaitsev's Rule as follows...

Zaitsev's rule (or Satzeff rule, Saytzev rule) is an empirical rule for predicting the favored alkene product(s) in elimination reactions. While at the University of Kazan, Russian chemist Alexander Zaitsev studied a variety of different elimination reactions and observed a general trend in the resulting alkenes. Based on this trend, Zaitsev stated, "The alkene formed in greatest amount is the one that corresponds to removal of the hydrogen from the β-carbon having the fewest hydrogen substituents." For example, when 2-iodobutane is treated with alcoholic KOH, 2-butene is the major product and 1-butene is the minor product.

Now that you all understand that, it does appear the Leafs may be making the first volley this offseason and signing Russian Nikita Zaitsev...I am not sure if he is related to the famous chemist, but he sure can play hockey. The rumor is he is close to a three year deal...possibly more...

I will be back with my previews for the games tonight along with the beginnings of my UFA preview.
