Welcome to draft day!
Provorov? Werenski? Zacha? Move up? Move Down? It will all be sorted out by the end of the day.
For now, let’s talk some rumors around the Sharks.
Kevin Bieksa
Good morning. Word today is Kevin Bieksa has informed VAN he would accept a trade to SJ. Now up to the teams to work out a deal.
— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) June 26, 2015What do you give up for a 34 year old defender who under-performs consistently for three years in a row in his given role?
The answer should be nothing, but it seems like it might turn out to be something.
Instead of going after a 29 year old Sekera or a 27 year old Franson, who both meet or exceed expectations in their given roles, rumors have Doug Wilson about to give up an asset for Kevin Bieksa.
Not a good start to the Draft Day. Don’t do it, Doug.
Cam Talbot
The Sharks were apparently one of several teams granted permission to talk to Cam Talbot but it’s unknown what kind of legitimate push they’re making to acquire the Rangers back-up goaltender.
One note about Cam Talbot: the teams given permission to talk to him were not given permission to talk salary. They could discuss...
— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) June 25, 2015fit on the roster and in the city. No surprises among the teams (BUF, CAL, DAL, EDM, SJ) with FLA appearing to look elsewhere.
— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) June 25, 2015Trading Up
The Sharks simply don’t have the assets to move up significantly – unless they’re trading Logan Couture, which likely isn’t the case.
Robin Lehner
*Update on Lehner: Tim Murray is doing his uncle some favors today. Lehner is off the board.
Bruce Garrioch is still trying to pawn Robin Lehner off on the Sharks.
#Sen hope to complete a deal for G Robin Lehner. As I wrote today, Sabres are frontrunners while Flames, Oilers and Sharks trying as well.
— Bruce Garrioch (@SunGarrioch) June 26, 2015Does Lehner have upside? Of course he does, but he also comes with a lot of questions and an injury history. I would avoid Lehner.
