Kerby Rychel got some good news on Monday, as he has been cleared to resume workouts following a concussion.
#CBJ prospect F Kerby Rychel, who suffered a concussion in February and missed remainder of season, has been medically cleared to workout.
— Aaron Portzline (@Aportzline) May 4, 2015Really good news on Rychel, who is key part of this club's future. He did not look out of place - at all - when he was recalled thi season.
— Aaron Portzline (@Aportzline) May 4, 2015Rychel, who was the 19th overall pick in the 2013 draft, had a solid season as a first year pro after an excellent OHL career.
Rychel scored 12 goals and tallied a respectable 33 points in 51 games with the Springfield Falcons and, as Portzline mentioned, didn't look out of place in his five games with the Blue Jackets.
It was a very small sample size, but Rychel fared well in possession relative to the team, as the Jackets generated 43% of the shot attempts with him on the ice at even-strength. That number dropped to an abysmal 35% when he was not. That he was able to produce some offense - he had three points in five games - in the process is icing on the cake.
Obviously this is great news for the Jackets, but most of all it's good for Rychel. It'd be terrible to have a promising career - and his life as a whole - derailed at 20 years of age because of a concussion.
