Last night was a game that made up for the past ten. Over the course of the past ten games, the Islanders have won some games they did not deserve to win. Their goalies stole some points that were probably not earned. Last night could probably be called a night in course correction.
The Islanders threw everything but the kitchen sink at Roberto Luongo during the first period of last night’s game, outshooting the Panthers 19-2. It could have easily have been three or four to nothing Isles after the first twenty, but Luongo played out of his mind.
Isles goalie Jaroslav Halak had an off night and a couple of breakdowns later the Isles fell to the Florida Panthers by a score of 5-1. As the game went from bad to worse to awful, Islanders’ head coach Jack Capuano took a RPG to the lines mixing and matching to no avail. Maybe pulling Halak after the third goal might have helped but it simply was one of those nights where every mistake found twine.
The Isles now take a brief two game trip out west as they will be in Colorado tomorrow to square off with the Avalanche and they take on the Coyotes before heading home next week. With this being a soft point in the schedule, there is a chance to rack up some more points before the Christmas break.
One more note on last night’s game. There was an ugly incident between Islander fans and Barclays Center Security. I have reached out to all parties involved and the fans involved will tell me what happened last night once the dust settles. The Barclays Center has no comment on the incident.
I will wait to bury the Barlcays Center once all the facts are out but I have been told that a fight ensued after a family tried to watch something on the jumbotron that they paid for honoring their late father. When they ducked in a random section in between periods to try and watch it they were not allowed in to watch the big screen for a minute because their tickets didn’t match where they were sitting. Yelling, shouting and a fight ensued and an Isles fan was injured. I have offered all parties involved, this forum to talk about what has happened. Let’s hope this ugly incident gets settled quickly.
