After being introduced as the Devils' new head coach John Hynes made it known that filling out the rest of the coaching staff was a priority and that he'd look to get that figured out in short order.
Hynes has held true to his word as he's already reached out to at least one coach about joining his staff.
Rutherford says New Jersey has asked Penguins for permission to discuss a job with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton assistant coach Alain Nasreddine.
— Dave Molinari (@MolinariPG) June 6, 2015Compensation was necessary in order to hire Hynes but none will be required if/when the Devils hire Nasreddine.
For all asking, Penguins would not receive compensation for Nasreddine if, as expected, he gets a job on the Devils' staff.
— Dave Molinari (@MolinariPG) June 6, 2015Nasreddine is a former blue liner who served as an assistant coach to Hynes in each of his five years with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Given he was a defenseman over a long pro hockey career it's probably a safe bet to assume he'd want to be in charge of the defense.
It will be interesting to see what will happen with Scott Stevens if Nasreddine takes over the defense, as Stevens has expressed interest in returning to the Devils.
