In this edition of the hotstove we share our thoughts on the off-season acquisition who has best served his new club thus far.
Todd Cordell To me it's Jonathan Marchessault and I'm not sure it's close.
He has always posted solid underlying numbers and they suggested if/when given opportunity to play meaningful minutes the points would come.
That has proven to be the case as he has six goals and 12 points in 11 games while filling in for the injured Jonathan Huberdeau on the top line.
In terms of production he is probably the best off-season acquisition. When you factor in it only took $750,000K(!!) to bring him in the addition looks even better.
Adam French Radulov and Weber. Yes I'm beating a dead horse here, but they have been excellent additions and seemingly from nowhere. Radulov has helped round out the Canadiens forward group, while Weber has solidified the defense in a tangible way. Radulov has 8 points in 10 games and has come over on the cheap. Weber leads the freaking team in points with 10. Led alone playing 25+ minutes a night. It's early, but I don't know how you could pick anybody else as the most important off season additions.
Except for Nail Yakupov. Uuuge addition.
Peter Tessier It's not Eriksson right? Probably not Staal either. What about Vesey, the guy who confounded us all summer with Vesey watch?
He has 6 goals and 3 assists so far as a rookie and is tied for second on the team in points. He's not doing something unsustainable with his possession numbers although he has a slight above average PDO but that's more on the save side than shooting. However depending on which site you use, Corsica or Puckalytics it's hard to know what's accurate for Vesey because the number differ wildly between the two sites.
That being said, his impact on the score sheet is impressive and thus far, for all the drama that came with him over the summer, he's made a significant impact on the Rangers and that's exactly what they needed.
