Hotstove: Can The Flyers Put Up A Fight Without Couturier? (Flyers)

Todd Cordell

It will be very difficult but I think the Philadelphia Flyers can still hang tough and compete with the Washington Capitals.

I don't know that they can win the series without Sean Couturier but, again, I think they'll still put up a fight.

In Game 1, for example, the Flyers played a good chunk of the game minus Couturier (and a forward) and they were still in the game until the final couple minutes.

Couturier is a big loss, obviously, but with Claude Giroux, Jake Voracek, Wayne Simmonds, Shayne Gostisbehere, Steve Mason et all. the Flyers can still give the Caps a run for their money.

James Tanner It's less likely that it was before, and even then it wasn't very likely, and now they have to win four of the next six games against the league's best team.

I thought Philly was a good pick for an upset, but after the combined blow of losing Couturier and the first game, I think it's now impossible.

Jason Lewis I don't think so. That's a major penalty killing cog and shutdown center for Philly. They were going to be up against it as is, but now you are losing a key guy in a really prominent defensive role against a ridiculous offensive team. Really tough loss for Philly when they were already going to have their work cut out for them.
