For me it's all about the P.K. Subban for Shea Weber trade.
Subban is a perennial Norris Trophy contender, has won it in the past, is as entertaining as any player in the league and is more gracious in the community with his time and money than anyone. All things considered he should have been untouchable unless Connor McDavid was offered (which would never happen, obviously).
How the Montreal Canadiens can justify trading a player of his caliber, and someone who means so much to the city, for an older, lesser defenseman who is already on the decline is beyond me.
I was surprised when the trade happened and I still can't believe the Habs pulled the trigger on this deal.
Jason Lewis I don't think there is any bigger surprise than the day we saw Stamkos re-sign, Hall get traded, and the Weber-Subban swap.
That may have been the single most insane day we have experienced in recent memory. One of those things happening would have been enough, but three of them in one day? That to me was the most surprising thing. Not that they all happened, but collectively, in one day, that was insane.
Peter Tessier Two things one a surprise the other plain curious. 1. Weber for Subban trade was the shocker of all especially after and on the heels of the Hall Larson one. The fall out of character assassination towards Subban and the hubris of it all was surprising and shocking given his character.
2nd is the lack of signing by first overall pick Auston Mathews. Is this not bizarre already? He has not signed a deal that is essentially capped and why? Not to start a rumour but the guy has hardly appeared thrilled to be a Leaf- perhaps he doesn't want to be there. Anyhow that's the curious thing so far this off-season.
