Henrique Shines As Devils Top Rangers In Overtime (Devils)

It wasn't pretty but the New Jersey Devils finally picked up their first win of the season.

After dropping four consecutive games to open the year the Devils managed to squeeze out a 2-1 overtime win against their biggest rivals in the New York Rangers.

Some thoughts:

1) Adam Henrique was once again a difference maker for the Devils. After scoring (in regulation plus the shootout) and tallying seven shots on Friday he managed to follow that up nicely on Sunday with a multi-point game. No. 14 was also one of just six Devils who finished better than 50% in possession at even-strength. I wrote prior to the season that he may have more to give offensively and so far he's proving that to be the case.

2) Lee Stempniak continues to provide the Devils with excellent bang for their buck. He scored the game-winning-goal, recorded four shots and was a team-best 55% possession player against the Rangers.

He now has three points and 10 shots in just five games and has contributed to both special teams units. He's a steal at $800,000.

3) The Devils have been better the last couple outings but goal scoring continues to be a big time problem. No team is going to win on a consistent basis when they only manage eight goals every five games.

4) Andy Greene deserves some recognition for his play; particularly in overtime. On when end he cleared the puck from near the goal line and shortly after the Devils went down the ice and scored. That doesn't happen without No. 6.

5) Through three starts Cory Schneider has a .945 save percentage and the Devils have collected points in two of his three starts. That's impressive considering the Devils have scored just three goals for him in three games.

Prospect Updates - Pavel Zacha scored the opening goal and recorded three shots in Sarnia's 4-1 win over Mississauga. Defenseman Josh Jacobs was held pointless but had an eventful night with three shots and four penalty minutes.

- John Quennevile was not in action Sunday but has gotten off to a noteworthy start in Brandon this season. Through seven games he has scored five times and recorded 12 points.
