The Coyotes won a hilarious game last night.
They started off the first period by having all five of their players lay on the ice so that Nashville could skate through them like a practice drill. By the time the period was over, Nashville was outshooting them 18-6.
Those aren't shot-attempts either, those are actual shots.
Then, for some reason, in the second period, the Coyotes decided that they had played possum just long enough to make the Preds feel confident, and they went on to dominate the rest of the game. (Until Overtime).
Once overtime came around, it was like watching a practice. The Predators literally kept possession of the puck for the entire five minutes. Louis Domingue seemed to be injured with a minute left, but he stayed in and somehow made an amazing glove save off of Forsberg in the shootout.
I don't know if I've ever seen a team dominate an overtime like that and not score. That's why I say Domingue won the game by himself, even if that isn't strictly true.
Duclair scored his first of the season and put an insane move on the Nashville goalie in the shoot-out to win the game for the good guys.
Louis Domingue was seriously awesome in this game. Especially in overtime where every member of the Coyotes abandoned him like his name was Kevin MacAllister.
To my eye, the best player of the night - besides Domingue - was the recently recalled Christian Dvorak who scored his first career goal and put up a 64% CF.
That line - which annoyingly and inevitably be refereed to as the Triple D Line (an easy lay-up, but we're better than that) - was fast, fun and they pretty much always had the puck.
But leave it to Tippett to have three of his top four skating forwards, in terms of ice-time, be Richardson, Vrbata and Martinhook.
Richardson was a 26% CF and led the team in ice-time (for forwards).
Richardson has lots of points so far and is over-achieving and obviously one of Tippett's favs. but if he's going to be effective - and I really don't think he can be, over the course of a full season - then he can't be playing the most minutes on the team.
I know they won, but let's not get too excited here. Outside of the Domi line the team wasn't very effective last night.
That being said, it was probably the best Coyotes game to watch this year so far - Chychrun, Domi, Ducliar, Dvorak, and Strome were all in the lineup.
