It all sounded so civil and so bland. The GM was happy and today as the player met his team mates and friends so did he. Why does that not soothe over a certain segment of the fan base? Yes this group are the hard core ones, the few who actively discuss all things Jets on social media and blogs and fan boards. I'm part of this group but I'm certainly not alone in my views that something seems amiss.
Do we take the GM at his word that he's happy to have the player back and no intention of trading him? Do we believe the player when he said that everything changed when he signed that contract and the trade request rescinded?
Do we need to?
The curious thing is while the deal is so friendly, and the term more so for one side who will still have control after this deal ends, why is no one asking about it?
Today we had lost every question to Trouba tweeted out and my ask of media never garnered are result of why did they settle for only two years? This is a massive risk for Trouba and all indication before the summer and even into it were both sides wanted long-term. Not now apparently.
Even Bob MacKenzie tweeted about the possibility of a trade:
I must be a dummy because I don't see how Trouba signing two-year bridge deal with $3M AAV makes him more likely to be traded now.

He followed that up with these:
IMO, clear reason he wasn't traded by WPG was because he fills such a specific need on their team that couldn't be filled by any trade.

Any team that would've traded for him could've leveraged same bridge deal he did with WPG. If anything, Trouba may cost more down road now.

But the problem here is that we know what Chevy was asking for and thus any team that fit that requirement would have had to be able to sign him at this cap hit or more or he only wanted certain teams that he would sign with? There's simply too many variables to let all this slide without some speculation and conjecture on our part.
So what say you the fan, do you believe all is well and good between the Jets and Trouba and Overhardt?
Are they playing nice in the sand box for now but know that within two years they will do this ugly dance all over again?
Heres the thing I leave you with to consider, if it may cost more to sign Trouba two years from now how come no one tried to capitalize on that aspect but signing now? Neither side did and that should be the most telling thing, no matter what Bob MacKenzie says.
