Devils Sign Scott Wedgewood To Contract Extension (Devils)

Devils GM Ray Shero took care of some housekeeping today in signing goaltending prospect Scott Wedgewood to a contract extension.

Wedgewood put pen to paper on a two-year, two-way deal that will see him earn an average of $587,500 per season prorated.

With Keith Kinkaid graduating to the NHL and Anthony Brodeur being let go by the organization it's certainly no surprise they gave Wedgewood a new contract.

They don't have much organizational depth in goal beyond their NHL talent and at 22 Wedgewood still has time to develop into an NHL caliber goaltender.

Over the last three seasons Wedgewood has slowly progressed as his save percentage has increased each year (.886, .899, .903).

The Devils are hoping he can continue that progression while taking on a larger role in Albany as the undisputed starter next season.

Even with Wedgewood back in the fold the Devils aren't deep in terms of goaltending talent so it wouldn't surprise me if they use one of their later draft picks on a goaltender this weekend.
